What defines a human being?
Enrico David’s figures defy unambiguous categorization. They are fragile, sometimes masked or grotesque, yet always delicate. In a poetically theatrical way, they become the protagonists in a silent drama revolving around one of the great questions of all time: what defines being human? Born in Ancona in 1966 and now working in London, David sees painting, textile, embroidery, paper, ceramic and sculpture as equally valid means of expression and uses them to create figures that oscillate between body and costume, person and role. The presentation brings together works from various phases of his career with a subtle, concise selection of works from the Kunsthaus collection. The result is a fascinating encounter with one of the present day’s most exciting Italian artists.
The exhibition has been organized by the Kunsthaus Zürich and the Castello di Rivoli Museo d’Arte Contemporanea, Rivoli-Turin.
