Between mythology and pop culture

Painting flourishes, once again, in the 21st century. Nisaba, the Mesopotamian goddess of grain, writing and storytelling, lends her name to this exhibition on contemporary painting. Artists from around the world are developing distinctive pictorial languages, using new allegorical imagery and modes of storytelling – for a world in which images circulate constantly and shared symbol systems are giving way to highly individual meanings. Nearly 35 artists are creating new works for this exhibition, inspired by mythology, literature, film, social media and popular culture. With Soufiane Ababri, Michael Armitage, Omar Ba, Sabian Baumann, Cornel Brudascu, Nicole Eisenman, Hamishi Farah, Jill Mulleady, Valentin Rilliet, Cinga Samson, Selma Selman, Mounira Al Solh, Salman Toor and others. The exhibition architecture is being developed by the renowned design and architecture studio Formafantasma

The exhibition is a collaboration with the Moderna Museet, Stockholm.

In suppport by the Truus and Gerrit van Riemsdijk Foundation and the UNIQA Kunstversicherung Schweiz.
